ChargePoint has released a home station for electric vehicle owners

ChargePoint offers the largest infrastructural network concerning electric vehicles or EVs within the United States, with more than 20,000 charging stations across America for the public to utilise as they need. The company has decided to expand their reach and are offering ChargePoint Home options too. This home EV charger is brand new, unveiled at the Consumer Electronics Show during January 2015.

An EV owners dream come true, the design is compact and chic bringing America’s biggest charging network straight into your home garage!

ChargePoint adapts design for residential application

The charger is almost the size of an average electronic tablet and will utilize similar smartphone apps that many users are already familiar with (though these apps will contain expanded features). Clients will be able to schedule their EV charge times in order to reduce energy usage and costs, and with a single tap to their phones they will be able to stop and start charging as their own discretion.

ChargePoint Home will integrate quite easily within any home and current account, whereby tracking of charging, costs and mileage data can be accessed. It will even slot in easily with a Nest smart home thermostat.

“Now EV drivers use the ChargePoint network to charge at home, at work, around town and out of town. With one app, EV drivers can track and manage all their charging wherever they go,” ChargePoint told CleanTechnica. “With ChargePoint Home, you can start and stop charging, schedule charging [to] minimize energy costs, set reminders, and even connect to Nest.”

Versatility and integration with phone apps making ChargePoint design unique

The device is a level two charger which adds up to 25 miles an hour to an electric car which utilizes a standard J1772 plug. The charger is so versatile, it can be installed either indoors or outdoors, whatever is easiest for the owner.

There are different cord lengths ranging from 12 to 25 feet which buyers may select from, but prices of these have not yet been released.

The company has claimed that they will be “very competitive” within this particular market, as can be seen from the many ChargePoint designs. The company claims that there are more charging point than McDonalds to be found!

Already positioning itself as the leader of electric vehicles charging stations, ChargePoint is now coming into your home and we recommend you welcome them with open arms!
