World Solar Challenge 2013 held in Darwin

Most of the racing competitions that we witness or have heard of are mainly about finding the fastest among a number of highly competitive speedsters. Basically, speed gives one an advantage against one’s clash against not only the others on the same battlefield of speed but also the hands of time.

One of most awaited racing competitions by the entire world a race where drivers showcase something greater than speed, need more than pure skill, and compete against a foe that has been racing on a different track for millennia. This takes place in Australia.

Being one of the greatest forerunners of renewable energy usage all over the world, Australia hosts the world’s grandest racing competition–World Solar Challenge. For over 20 years, the World Solar Challenge that has given an even greater meaning to racing—one that goes beyond being the first one to cross the finish line.

The World Solar Challenge is race considered by many to be against sun. However, many have proven that with the right tools, tactics, and mindset, it could also be a race with the sun on your side.

For about 1,877 miles or so, drivers from various corners of the world compete not for themselves or any personal gratification for technology and superiority. It’s a race geared toward giving the world a more answers to their uncertainties about the science and technology of transportation powered by solar energy.

Due to a great deal of complexity and variation carefully infused in this bicentennial race, the World Solar Challenge continues to keep the interest of racers at its peak along with an ounce of curiosity. As this year’s World Solar Challenge gets sponsored by Bridgestone,one of widely known names when it comes giving wheel technology, supporters and contestants were surely in for the grandest and most unforgettable race with, against, through, and for the sun.

Beating the sun

Unlike the usual racing events being held all over the world, the World Solar Challenge takes a lot from the drivers in terms of critical thinking, patience, and discipline. With the normal traffic conditions continuing during the entire duration of the race, drivers would also have to deal with our present traffic situation and common road situations as they race from Darwin to Adelaide.

With a minimum of 2 drivers to a maximum 4 drivers, the race took place from 8:00 am until 5:00 pm while inflicting a huge amount of stress to both man and machine. Different categories of the race offered everyone both on and off the track with something worth every single second of the experience. However, fun and excitement were just appetizers for the entire event since everything had its eyes on the real prize—getting better solar power data for transportation and even other solar products used for everyday life of man.

Just imagine the effort of everyone who contributed to the race’s success would surely lead to more and more beneficial resources for man to use not only on the streets but also in their homes. Time will come when everyone can still enjoy the warmth of the sun even during a dark and cold night on the streets or even in their room.
