Origin – A Model S of Perfection

Origin Energy, Australia’s largest retail supplier of electricity is throwing its support behind renewable technologies in the form of electric vehicles.

Origin is teaming with an US company, Tesla Motors, to launch the Model S five-door sedan in Australia by mid-2013.

“In a similar deal to that already arranged with Origin and Holden, Tesla will have access to Origin’s Green-power technologies,” said Jay McCormack, Tesla’s Australian and New Zealand Manager.

Origin Energy has recently teamed with Holden Australia to build six on-site charging stations for Holden’s range of electric cars including the Volt.

The stations, supplied by Charge-point, contain charging equipment and services, and electricity management systems for electric vehicles.

Earlier this month the Tesla Model S Sedan won the Motor Trend ‘Car of the Year’ Award in the US – the first fully electric car to do so.

“Both Origin and Tesla have an opportunity to use renewable energy resources and it is a goal which both our companies share,” said Mr McCormick.
