Woolworths making more than the sign green

The Woolworths supermarket chain last week held a press conference to announce its plans to install solar power systems on all of its stores.

The top of the range solar panel systems will be installed by an Australian solar company and will supply power to all of Woolworths refrigeration, air-conditioning, lighting and general power usage.

“Its time we acted like a responsible global company” a spokesperson said, “This is more than just a token gesture to our customers, as well as helping the environment we will be able to dramatically reduce our power bills so that’s a good thing for our share holders”.

This announcement coincides with the implementation of the carbon tax, a clever move as reducing power bills will help to keep shelf prices down and help to give the company an “eco” tag which ties in well with the increasing demand for clean green organic products that will only grow in the future.
