First Solar making Super Bowl XLIX more than just a football game

First Solar has signed on as an Arizona Super Bowl Host Committee (AZSBHC) partner to spruce up Phoenix, Arizona for the 49th Super Bowl on February 1st this year. Phoenix has been the home of First Solar City for 15 years now, and First Solar partnership with the state of Arizona is a show of gratitude for the numerous opportunities that the state capital has given it.

Since October, First Solar has worked on such opportunities to provide associates in its Tempe company headquarters with activities and AZSBHC-sponsored projects for community service, including support for preparations of the Pheonix Super Bowl, completing over 180 man-hours of service to the community.

First Solar volunteers working with local community

The First Solar City team has been “hanging out” with Super Bowl XLIX mascot “Spike” and volunteering to teach kids to become better citizens through a program with core games called Playworks. Volunteers from the company work with Assistance League members as well to provide community members access for their needs via the local level such as:

  • Building kits and filling these with basic toiletries for school children.
  • Sorting used books into their appropriate grade levels.
  • Preparing shoe and clothing donations for the program called Operation School Bell.
  • Assisting kids of K-8 schools with their uniform fittings.

The volunteers from First Solar have even worked to hand-pack especially-formulated meals for the program Feed My Starving Children’s malnourished kids. In December 2014, company associates helped the family-oriented 4.9 kilometre “Fun Run at Rawhide” in Chandler, Arizona by working the registration desk and distributing water to the runners, among other tasks.

First Solar sponsoring much anticipated 49th Super Bowl Countdown Clock

Aside from hosting several volunteer projects, First Solar is proudly sponsoring the Countdown Clock of the 49th Super Bowl, a much-awaited landmark during the series of celebrations expected to occur in downtown Phoenix thisFirst solar

Measuring 13 feet in height, the steel and aluminium clock will have nine solar panels featuring three super bright LED screens of over 200 feet of LED lights. The super-sized clock will display the Super Bowl XLIX kickoff’s countdown as well as feature updated video during the game. According to AZSBHC CEO/President Jay Parry, First Solar’s “strong local leadership” made this possible.

Volunteer programs First Solar’s way of giving back to the Arizona community

Renowned as a global leader in the manufacture and distribution of products utilising comprehensive PV (photovoltaic) solar energy, First Solar delivers bankable energy solutions from their Arizona headquarters. To show appreciation for all that Phoenix has done for the company, First Solar got involved with the AZSBHC as its way of giving back to the city that has done so much for them.

First Solar’s proven success as a developer, financier, engineer, and operator of some of the largest PV power stations worldwide has brought more than support for the AZSBHC; the company, which is the choice for most global customers, has given Arizona residents commitment support of a growing community of solar energy advocates for the long haul.
