You might have noticed that little star rating sticker on your fridge or dishwasher, or on the boxes of all electrical appliances. Those ratings are not based on your cooking abilities or the way you make your coffee –  they are energy efficiency ratings, and they are the best to tell how energy efficient household appliances are.

The Australian government teamed up with the state and territory governments, as well as New Zealand to create the Equipment Energy Efficiency Program. This program was designed to monitor the energy efficiency of all of the electrical appliances on the market through Australian and New Zealand, in order to measure how efficient the appliances we use most in our homes are. These are run on a star system, where the higher the star rating is – the more efficient the product is. These labels are used to help you to figure out if your use of a certain product is above or below the average energy use, to help you to determine the right product for you, (or if you need to offset some of your energy bills with solar power!).

You can use the Australian government’s energy rating calculator to help you to figure out what products work the best for you here:  http://www.energyrating.gov.au/ and give your home the five star treatment.
