Alcoa warns that power cost and carbon tax will hit hard

Aluminium giant Alcoa says Australia no longer offers the affordable electricity which has been responsible for fueling the aluminium industry.  Alcoa warns that smelters in Victoria will be hit the hardest by the Gillard governments carbon tax due to the flawed assumption in its design.

Alcoa Australia chief executive Alan Cransberg recently had discussions with the Victorian government and federal state opposition as the company reviews the viability of its Point Henry plant.  Cransberg told The Weekend Australian his business paid more for power than overseas smelters.
